Hi Argus, you could try either of the answers you have received as they should both work. Just make sure you have removed all the paste from the wallpaper as any left could ruin the finish. I would also say that if as you say, you are going to use a vinyl silk finish then make sure that the walls ar...

Hi all, there is one way to get over the slope part of the ceiling but it is fiddly. Put up the coving to the straight part of the ceiling and to the straight bit of the slope. After this cut a bit of coving a bit bigger than the gap you have left and saw through the back of it in a number of places...

Hi jopugh, a mist coat is a watered down first coat of emulsion to help the paint adhere to the plaster. If the first coat is put on straight from the tin it wont soak into the plaster as it will just dry on the surface then at some time in the future it is likely to peel and you will find it very h...

Hi, on the mildew patches do as you say and put on a mould and mildew remover such as the Dettox one, which I find works very well. You will probably find that the mould is due to a lack of ventilation and possibly not enough heat in the room. The paint is most probably peeling due to the first coat...

Hi, you should be able to match the colour by going to one of the bigger DIY stores and getting them to mix the colour for you. It won't be a matt finish though as bathroom paint will have a silk finish. I would go for the Dulux range of paints personally as they seem to last longer than the others,...

Hi ukbill, as Chris says it will be caused by condensation. As he says use a mould and mildew remover, I always use the Dettox one and find it works well. If the mould is bad you may have to use it more than once though. Make sure that you don't miss any though as if you paint the walls and you have...

Hi, the simple answer is not to do it. Upvc is not really made to be painted and the chances of it staying on without some of it peeling are slim. Dulux do make a upvc paint but I think it only comes in white, just in case you wanted a different colour. There is a product called ESP which is used to...

Hi triplet, in my opinion the best way would be to key the wood with a medium to fine sandpaper, then wash it all down to get rid of any grease that may have built up over the years. After this prime any bare bits before giving it a couple of coats of undercoat to completely cover the old varnish, t...

Hi, my advice would be to remove all the damaged paper then cut a piece bigger than the damaged area including the staight edge, as you say it started at a join in the paper, then backtear the piece and paste into place. Once it has all dried out paint the area to hide it. If you have got enough of ...

Hi rosebery, it's sorted now but thanks for the reply. As you said it's was something to do with the messages my son was getting on msn. It's very rare he leaves them on here for long but he's been working nights and hadn't been on here for couple of days so I got to the PC before him. When I checke...

Hi pug, hardwood doors are better off being stained or varnished as paint has a habit of peeling when used on them. I would say if you really want to paint it then use a primer of aluiminium oxide followed by 2 coats of oil based undercoat then 1 or 2 coats of the topcoat. I always use Dulux paints ...

Hi Fin, from what you are saying it sounds like they papered straight onto the plasterboard without plastering first which does sometimes happen these days. All due to costcutting, but it does make it difficult for people later on. Personally I would skim the walls. Then you have got nice new walls ...

Hi mojopin, these sound like you are doing the painting in strips and overlapping each piece. If you are painting a whole wall with a brush you will need a brush about 4ins in size. Start at the top and do whole strip along the top of the wall about 12 to 18ins deep then go back to where you started...
