Re: Wiring Question and Fitting 3-pin Plug in Place of Light Fixing

You can't just put sockets on light switches..... The circuit is only protected with a 6a fuse/MCB, what's to stop someone plugging an 13A fan heater of hair dryer into it, it's going to trip the fuse or catch fire. The 3 blacks not connected to the switch as you said are infact very important wires...

Re: Re-wiring 3-Gang Switch With two two-ways and one Direct

This is where you need some test equipment, you'll need to check if you've got voltage going to the switch. I could see the sketch was the wrong way round & the outside light was C. You have said there was power going to the light, has the lamp blown in the fitting ? 'L1' looks the obvious place...

Re: Re-wiring 3-Gang Switch With two two-ways and one Direct

The blue neutral out side light cable goes with the other neutrals in the block( DO NOT CONNECT ANY NEUTRALS TO THE SWITCH) ITS A STRAIGHT FEED FROM THE CONSUMER UNIT TO THE LAMP(LOAD)

The live switch wire going to the out side light will go to L1

The earth goes to the earth block.

Re: Replacing old 3 gang light switch

On the old switch, you have a feed wire going in to the first one.(the one with 2 reds in) then going into the second & then a yellow one into the third(should have had red sleeve on) get rid of the short yellow & red ones, all these are live feeds in. now, the feed red cable that I mentione...

Distances at Rear of Integrated Appliances

How big of a gap is there behind an intergrated fridge freezer, microwave & dishwasher, is there enough room for the plug to fit in a flush socket or has it got to be plugged in under the unit or on top.

Can I cut a 600 mm Deep unit to 300mm

I'm thinking of getting a kitchen from Wickes, on one wall I need a slim line 300mm unit, Wickes don't do them in the style I want, can I cut it down to 300mm before I assemble it.

Re: 12 Wires in Ceiling Rose and Help Needed With connecting it Back up

Quite straight forward really, the two black wires with white sleeves, are the live switch wires, they go together in the live terminal of the fitting. Normally these should have red sleeves on, but it looks like it's heat protection. The 2 black wires are the neutrals, they go together in the neutr...

Re: New Light Fitting and now Circuit Breaker Broken

The single black wire should have had a red sleeve or red tap on it, this is the switch wire(live) The two blacks together are the neutral loop in & out. you must have had a dead short when you put these blacks together & a load bang. The three reds are the live loop & switch feed. In th...

Re: 2 Way Switch Problem After Changing Switch Plates

Could be a junction box under the floor boards somewhere, you'll need some test gear to test continuity from switch to switch.

get a electrician in to test it.

Re: Landing Light Switch and Connecting Existing 4 Wires in to 3 in new Switch

Looks like the switch that has 4 terminals in an intermediate switch, (middle switch of 3 way switching) is there another switch somewhere that operates the landing light other than downstairs.

you will have to purchase an intermediate switch.

Just be careful where the existing cables are in the wall, cables run vertically from sockets.
They also run horizontally sometimes

Re: Problem With Bolt Joint in Metal Bed Frame

Had the same problem with my sons bed, I Work in an engineering shop & made a new insert a little bigger so it was tight in there.
There’s no quick fix with this, either weld it or drill straight through.
