Sorry to be brutal but i would sugest before you try and go out as a sole trader, plastering, you learn a boit more about the trade . Have you any experience in plastering . You would be better off labouring for a plasterer and learning the trade , it really isnt as easy as lt looks

when we render big areas ,50m plus , we put two coats on the wall , first coat is a scrath coat with a waterproofer mixed in the gauging water this will allow time to work with the second coat , float coat , but as said timing only comes with experience

you can indeed tape and joint the boards but you will need to use boards with tapered edges to allow for the tape and jointing compound , plasterboards will need to be tacked very neatly and generally you will not get as good a finish as with plastering

preperation is everything when rendering , damp wall beforehand , use the right mix for the background at the right consistancy , build up in coats , use a good admix with the gauging water
