Dried sellotape on walls....help!

Hi, I need to paint our bedroom but the previous owner stuck ribbon around the edge of the room using sellotape which has now dried and turned yellow. Does anyone know how to get it off? I'm a bit hesitant to use sticky stuff remover or eucalyptus oil as it means I then have to stain block it and wi...

Re-tiling quote help

We live near Croydon on the outskirts of South London and need the slate tiles pulled from the walls of our bathroom in our loft conversion as they are too heavy for the walls and the movement is causing all the joins to constantly crack. As a result we want the shower screen, radiator, shower, toil...

Stain keeps appearing through paint...help!

Hi, We had a leak in our roof 18 months ago and since then have had a new roof and the wall has dried out in our bedroom. I have scraped away all the old paint and some plaster and have used an eco friendly stainblock on the area which normally requires 2 coats, however every time i put it on the st...

filling gaps in wooden floor boards - help!

Hi, We have wooden floors in most of our house and there are 2 rooms in particular that have large gaps in between the floor boards. We previously used filler before we stained and varnished them but now the filler is coming loose and keeps being sucked up by the vacuum cleaner. In the other room th...

Firecheck ceilings for loft conversion

Hi, A builder who has previously done some work for us came to look at our loft conversion today which was done by a loft company and was passed by our local council's building regulations. He said that even though we have had 30 minute fire check doors put in on every door frame in the house, that ...

French doors are drafty

The french double glazed upvc doors in both our loft conversion and kitchen are really drafty and are making the house freezing especially in this windy weather. The ones in the kitchen have a draft coming from the black seal that runs around the frame and seals when the door shuts. The one in the l...

Fixing blind rail to new loft wall...Help!

We have just had our loft done and i am wanting to fix a rail for our blind that is to fit over double french doors and is therefore going to be quite heavy. I am unsure what to use to drill into the wall as we have previously drilled self tapping screws for plasterboard elsewhere but they have loos...

Salts

Isn't using one of those paints that seal damp areas enough once i've sanded the wall enough? We know the wall won't be getting wet again and is now dry and because it is such a small area we don't want to be charged to the hilt for a small job.

Any thoughts?

thanks

Me too!

Hi, we have moved into a mid terraced property that has the same problem on one of the bedroom walls. Our builder told us it was the salts drying out and since then we have had a re-roof to stop it happening and causing serious damage. We are now at the stage of decorating and i too will be interest...
