13A socket spur

Hi everyone, I know there is a 'how to' guide for this question but there are a few questions that still need answering. 1. The socket I want to use has 3 live, 3 negative and 3 earth going into it can I use this to add another spur even though it had an existing spur to an exterior light? 2. If I c...

Differences between built in and built under gas ovens

Hi everyone, I've been trying to find out the difference between built in and built under gas ovens. I am looking for a single gas oven/grill to be built under my worktop. What are the differences between the two, if any, and can built in ovens be fitted underneath worktops? Any help would be apprec...

Thanks for the reply. I fully agree gas work is well outside the scope of DIY'ers.

Connecting a gas oven and hob to a single supply

Hi everyone, I am looking to fit a gas oven and hob to replace the combined gas oven, however there is only one gas pipe that feeds the existing oven. Do I have to have another gas pipe fitted for the hob or can I run both from one pipe and have two supply connections from it? Any help would be appr...

'so my own water main is my only option' What do you mean by this, why do you think the pipe in the kitchen will have a greater pressure ? If it is connected to anything, then it'll be to the same distribution main as your current water supply. There'll be no pressure increase. (even though your pro...

Thanks for your help, I will certainly ask them about it. Also the mains pressure is so low that it takes ages to fill the bath, so my own water main is my only option.

How to trace a pipe?

Hi everyone, I'm currently on a shared water system with the rest of the street and have been looking to get my own water supply, recently whilst renovating the kitchen I noticed what appeared to be a water supply pipe coming out of the ground in the kitchen, the pipe is about 1" in diameter an...

Relay existing carpet

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know how easy/difficult it would be to relay an existing carpet once it has been taken up?

Is it simply a case of attaching them to the existing carpet battons or does it not 'sit' right once it's been taken up?

Any help would be appreciated

Bricking up old chimney brest

Hi everyone, I'm in the process of renovating my house and I have a chimney brest that isn't used any more. I have been told that it needs to have an air vent in the chimney brest after bricking it up, is this correct? To me it seems pointless to let cold air in and warm air out, does anyone know an...

Converting the loft

Hi everyone, I am thinking of converting the loft just for space, however are there special boards that I need, ie fire resistant and what are the implications of putting the boards over the insulation which currently has the lighting circuit running through it. Would this be a fire hazard? Thanks i...
