New radiator, plastic polypipe and earthing query

Hi, Hoping someone here can be kind enough to give me some advice/info on a query for a friend of mine. He's planning to replace his old single panel radiator to a new double panel one. At the moment the two pipes going into the radiator comes up from the centre and goes outwards to the radiator val...

Re: fitting laminate around a fireplace

Hi magoo. It would be best to start with a straight wall at the other end of the room. When you reach the fireplace, are you able to lift it to put the laminate underneath? If so, that would save you messing around with the beading on the curved fireplace to cover the expansion gap. Hope it helps [q...

What was the subfloor, was it wooden floorboards or concrete? If it was concrete, is it old or new? And what type of underlay used, foam or fibreboards?
As rosebery says, it will all need to come up and be relaid properly.

Was is a click system laminate floor that was installed? I would disagree with your builder and say this is not meant to happen. Don't let him fill in the gaps, it'll look terrible!!! Were the packs of flooring left in the room to be fitted for a few days so they could acclimatise?

Rosebery's idea would only be a temporary solution. Judging by the sounds of it, it may need a complete refit. :( Were the skirting boards removed, or was trim used to cover the expansion gap around the edges? Was this "fitter" recommended to your daughter? Definitely sounds like a cowboy ...

Hi Supergran :)

Sorry to hear your flooring problem. Without seeing it, I'm unsure how to best advise. Is it possible for you to take photos and upload them?

Re: Loc laminate, carpet and laminate underlay
I have just laid my loc laminate on the existing carpet underlay (which is in very good condition) and new fibreboard laminate underlay. Obviously there is some movement in the boards, is this a problem? Are the boards designed to flex in this way?
Using carp...

Hi, I normally use a compound mitre saw for cutting the beading. It allows you to cut the internal and external angles of 90 degree angle corners, and a variety of other angles, depending on the shape of the room.
