I would use white spirits for priming bare wood etc, then when u come to undercoat use it neat coz the paint is thin anyway!

Paste on the wall

Yes indeed its the paste from the size! But paste is water based so the simple solution would be to thin some cheap undercoat down alot and cut in and roll with undercoat, then emulsion over with some vinly flat matt!!

Im a decorator and i do that with my private jobs!
