only because you are changing your kitcen would i definately change it. Hard to picture your scenario, but whoever you get to change it will get the correct boiler to fit the space

sounds like the 3 port valve(three pipes coming out of it) or two port valve sticking open - it would need to be found, - do you know where the pump is as it may be close to that. Or could be under the floor. It is not a problem with the immersion though. good of the guy to come back f.o.c. when you...

maybe ask for a second opinion on the powerflush but true enough removing the radiators will not clear a choke in the pipes leading to them Then again a powerflush would not remove a choke that bad anyway so check that any quotes include physically removing blockages as required

i agree with the heating engineer this is not something you can fix yourself, try checking if the radiators heat when the hot water is running by itself - may be a faulty diverter valve

is it definately not pumping over through the expansion pipe above the tank? has the pump been changed recently ie. maybe fitted wrong way roung? how old is the system?

crazy talking, you are pretty much going to have to change or remove your fire downstairs - might be worth checking if you can have a balanced flue model fitted or a lot of people just put in an electric fire for the look. cheers

you really should try recharging the expansion vessel, & if you have found the servicing manual it will mention it in there, normally as part of a yearly maintainance check
