Joining Cables behind Plasterboard

Thanks, that's really helpful.

How about soldering the wires together and putting sleeving over each of the earth, live and neutral and then sleeving over the whole lot?

Joining Cables behind Plasterboard

Hello, I need to move a socket around a metre lower and therefore need to extend the cable, which is a spur from a socket in the room above. The access from above is very difficult so running a completely new cable would be quite disruptive. What is the correct way to extend a cable behind plasterbo...

Cabling and Loft Insulation

Hello, I want to increase my loft insulation by adding Space Blanket over the existing mineral wool. The current insulation already covers cables for the lighting circuit and I assume that I can't just add insulation on top because the cables may overheat. However, the cables are too tightly laid to...

Simon. Thanks for the reply. I had the same concern as you about adding to the 'cavity' insulation, I think it may form a bridge for moisture which would be lethal for the metal frame. Other options I have considered are an external cladding with integral insulation, which is expensive, or dry linin...

Insulation and the Home Inspection Packs (HIP)

Hello, I'm told that the HIP includes a measure of energy efficiency, which I assume includes a measure of how well your home is insulated. Does anyone know how inspectors test the insulation? For example, if I insulate the loft and then lay loft boards, the insulation can't be seen although it may ...

Washing Machine Waste

Hello,

I'd like to move my washing machine into my outhouse, but there is no waste plumbed in there.

Is it okay just to run a waste pipe from the washing machine, thorough the wall and out over an open drain (also used for guttering water)?

Many thanks,

BISF house insulation

Hello,

I own a BISF house, essentially a steel frame prefab. The steel frame is covered with sheet metal cladding and/or render on the outside and stud wall on the inside.

What would be the best way to add or increase wall insulation?

Thanks,

Martyn

Thank you Sparx, I'll run some tests asap. Could you point me to any signal injectors links - might be a good investment? PM me if you don't want to advertise on the forum.

Finding break in ring main

Hello, I was attempting to extend my ring main to add a socket at the weekend. I removed the wires from a socket, tested them and found one live cable and two not live. This suggests that the socket had two ring main cables going in and one spur, but one side of the ring main had a break in it. I co...
