Sadly now it's down, it's just a waiting game to allow it to dry. This is a perfect example of why I try and avoid Hardwax Oil whenever I can. If we could wind the clock back and you still wanted to use HWO I would recommend the Osmo Rapide or Bona HWO. I would then apply the first coat very thin wi...

Sika T52 will not act as a vapour barrier as it is a PU adhesive. Silaine adhesive like Bona R850 will give some protection against moisture but, if moisture is a problem you will need a proper DPM like Bona R410. Acclimatise the boards in the same room they will be laid, at the same humidity (give ...

Try a product called Bona Gap Master. It comes in a range of wood colours and will fill gaps upto about 5mm.

Its a bit like a silicone sealant but importantly it is "Silicone Free". This means you can lacquer over it when it is dry.

Check compatibility of the Hardwax on a small area first before doing the whole floor. If you want to change to a lacquer surface you will need to sand off the old product first. I would suggest a flat matt waterbased product like Traffic or Naturale over a solvent based any day, but the floor will ...

Hi FrostiBear Sadly there are no waterbased lacquers that can be applied over the top of Oil based products. (Oil and water do not mix.) There are a few products that give the Matt level of oil like Naturale from Bona. There are still some specialist solvent products around that will give the darken...

Be very careful here. Granwood is a mixture of concrete and wood and as such, when you sand it you get very fine concrete dust floating in the atmosphere which is a bit like a thick fog, but is also very bad for your lungs. If you decide to proceed any further you need a very good mask/respirator an...

Hi Simon If the finish is a lacquer (Varnish) and you have lots of tiny surface scratches you can use either a polish or polyurethane refinisher like "Freshen-up". These will apply a small amount of finish to the surface and mask small scratches. If the problem is deep scratches through th...

Hi Simon
Is the floor, Oiled, Hardwax Oil, Lacquered, Pre-finished or laminate? They all differ in the solution for repairs.
Post back and I will try to help.

A buffer is like a random orbital just much bigger. It's the sort of thing you see cleaners using to polish or clean floors. Usualy has a 16 or 17" disc on the bottom where you can attach different pads or abrasives. Try google images then type in "Floor Buffer" and that will give you...

Hi Jeremy Your first problem was probably crowning of the floor boards. This is where the centre of the board is higher than the edges. This can take quite a large amount of sanding to remove, see my other post left a few minutes ago. From your description it sounds as if you resorted to the edger i...

As a regular floor sander and sealer I would have to say the quality of the job will depends upon how good you are at DIY and the quality of the tools you have at hand Firstly, light weight hire sanders don't help, my Bona Belt sander is about twice the weight and power of those machines. Secondly, ...

The type of cleaning depends upon the product the boards were finished with in the first place. Flooring manufacturers produce good cleaning products which are less likely to damage the floor than the products you can buy from the supermarket. Oiled and hard wax oil floors need specific cleaners, la...

Hi
If the gaps are larger than 5mm the product you need is called Gapmaster. It comes in many wood colours so you should find a match
The specific problem with Silicon sealants is that they will repel any future finishes you apply to the wood.

Wood and water go together well when designed that way. Sadly wooden flooring is dried to normal room humidity and will swell when given water. I have seen many wooden floors in bathrooms, and most look fine given you look after the floor appropriately. The main issue is spills, water and cleaning p...
