Go to your local buildbase and ask for CT1 sealant. It comes in a range of colours, works in the wet and is a hundred times better than silicone. It is a very effective high grab adhesive as well as a sealant and really does work for pretty much everything.

If the unsquare wall is straight you should scribe a line, and use a router with a kitchen jig. If the wall is uneven then you should scribe the line and cut slowly and carefully with a jigsaw. Take half a turn on the union connecting to the supply and rotate the valve until you can turn it off. Make sure to retighten the union once you are done. There should be little or no mess from leakage. I have done this on occasion and it has worked for me. Hope this helps
