Re: Primer on plaster

Thanks stoneyboy

A small area about the size of my hand came off. So all done, and fingers crossed for the rest of it

Primer on plaster

Hi. I have a few square feet of new plaster and I put primer that I already had on it yesterday . However I completely forgot to dilute it to create a mist coat.

Can I do anything to rectify the mistake, or should I just paint over it and hope for the best?

Earth with plastic backbox

I’m replacing a plastic dimmer with a chrome. The backbox is plastic and the earth is currently terminated. So I plan to wire with the earth going into the front plate of the switch. The cable and backbox were put in by an electrician about a year ago and I’ve got reams of certificate information. T...

Re: 3 questions on switched live

Thanks for the clarification. Is TN the more common one in the UK then ?

I think I will stick with the manual dimmer, I don’t want to risk the issues you mentioned

Re: Earthing metal clad socket

Ah I see 5mm must be the length not the diameter, but it says 1.25 at bottom, so will this be ok?

Re: Earthing metal clad socket

Hi

This is a photo of what it says on the back of the extension lead

Is this suitable to take some earth for the faceplate to the back box ?

Earthing metal clad socket

Hi Sorry for a 3rd post, looking at getting all my electrical diy done at moment I have a damaged surface mounted plastic socket in the basement. I’m looking at replacing it with a metal clad one. Which has 2 earths on front plate and one in back box. I’ve read some advice that says a fly lead isn’t...

3 questions on switched live

Please bear with me. I had an electrician put in spotlights and a dimmer in my bedroom about a year ago. On a whim a bought a smart switch dimmer, naively believing a recent installation would have a neutral. However opening the switch I have a brown live , terminated earth (as all plastic), and a b...

Re: Two way switches

Thanks

I want to swap new ones in, possibly chrome, but I’m always a little nervous when it’s wired differently to how is recommended in the books / sites I’ve checked

I’m probably just being over cautious, but I tend to be a bit ocd with the lecky

Two way switches

Hi

I have two 1-gang 2-way light switches in the hall. I was expecting one of them to have two cables

They both have a single 4-core cable: red, blue, yellow, and earth. Is it likely that they are both connected to a junction box to the power and lighting cable? If so is this all ok?

Correct wiring new light fitting

Hi, I’ve read through various posts , please can you confirm I have this correct? Photos attached. I’m replacing a plastic light fitting that goes into a rose with a metal one that just attaches to the ceiling with a bracket I believe I should put the switched live into the Live terminal (blue with ...

Screw Gauge on Rawl Plug Holder

Probably obvious when you know the answer, but why is the screw gauge on the plastic rawlplug holder a teardrop shape, and which end do I measure the screw in ?
