Shower needs to drain up hill

I'm installing a shower into our basement and need to lift the water - what's the best way to do this? The building regs guy suggested draining into a sump built into the garden and then use a sump pump to pump it into our nearest drain. I was wondering whether or not there was a macerator type solu...

moisture in cavity wall in garage/basement

We are about to convert our integral garage which is mostly underground (house built into a slope). Building regs noticed that there was moisture in the cavity (he was looking for insulation and found that the poly beads in the cavity were damp) and have suggested a membrane, then build effectively ...

Converting integral garage

We're going to convert our double (integral) garage into a room with a hydrotherapy pool. As it's integral and our living room is above it, I'd like to make sure that we dont have problems down the line due to the increased humidity. Is there any guidance for how such a room should be specified eg w...

Therapy pool and electrics

We are hoping to set up a therapy pool in our garage which is below our living room and beside our basement. The incoming elecricity supply and consumer unit are in the basement (separated from the garage by a solid wall), within 2m of the pool - do they fall within zone B or C or does the wall effe...

Draining shower into soak-away

We'd like to install a shower in our converted garage but it's very difficult to get the water into an existing drain. Are there regulations against draining a shower into a soak-away (it's strictly a shower only that is being installed, no toilet).

thanks

Sinking a pool into a garage floor

We are going to convert our garage (19'x16') into a therapy room for my daughter which will include an 'endless pool' measuring 15x8 which would sit in between the two 19' end walls (4' from each) and butt up to one of the 16' side walls (ie running 8' alongside it). Ideally we'd like to sink the po...

central heating system continuous overflow

We recently had a new boiler installed (replaced LPG with oil) - it's a Grant 160/200, apparently a 140/160 would have been sufficient but it wasnt available. The problem is that ever since it's been installed the system has overflowed. It only overflows when the CH is on, and starts a few minutes a...
