Re: Wiring for new extractor fan

3(N) = "1 N Neutral Supply" is only my bite?,
But 1(LT) = "2 S Switched Supply" could be right?,
meaning 2 (L) is Permanent Supply,
but I don’t know why,
so that’s the last time I ask Mr White
(plenty more fish in the sea!!!)

Re: Wiring for new extractor fan

Thanks for the reply Mr White. To simplify things a bit, what I’m struggling with is how the terminals marked 1(LT) 2(L) and 3(N) on the new unit correspond to the terminals marked "1 N Neutral Supply", "2 S Switched Supply" and "3 P Permanent Supply" on the old unit. E...

Wiring for new extractor fan

I have a new extractor fan with terminal names 1(LT) 2(L) and 3(N). The existing fan is currently wired with two separate grey cables (each of them have blue and brown cables inside). Twin and earth without the earth I think! With the first grey cable the blue is going to "1 N Neutral Supply&qu...

Intercom - where to put wires that have come disconnected

First of all, I don’t know anything about electrics but I’m good at following advice! I have a 6 way intercom (with additional service button). A few years back it lost the ability to communicate with the handsets but this was because someone stole the speaker/amplifier from behind the call panel! T...

Re: Can I use "dot and dab" method with plasterboard that has metallised polyester foil backing

Thanks for the replies. Batons aren't an option because the depths I am working with but I've come to the conclusion that the silver backed plasterboard isn't really neccissary anyway. Unfortunately it's been bought and delivered though so would it be viable just to rip out the foil in the places wh...

DIY damp proofing job using membrane

Having never done any meaningful DIY in my life I have decided to try to do a damp proofing job by copying the job spec I was given in a quote I got from a nationwide damp proofing firm. The job is to strip back the plaster on a 5sqm wall to the bare sandstone (which has a cavity behind it and then ...

Can I use "dot and dab" method with plasterboard that has metallised polyester foil backing

I am doing a fist time "do it yourself" damp roofing job and am very inexperienced! I have purchased some Knauf Vapour Panel Square Edge plasterboard from Wickes. The description of the product is "Vapourshield is laminated with a metallised polyester foil to create an effective vapou...

Damp Proof Company wants £1700 but I think I can do it myself (with a bit of advice!)!)

I have had some work recommended by a national damp proofing company at a cost of over £1700 (for a 3m x 2.4m wall). The report recommends the following: • Remove wall plaster to the external wall full height • Fit delta lath cavity wall membrane • Dot Dab plasterboard to membrane with skim coat pla...

Can internal dampness be fixed whilst a leak is still active?

I have an internal damp problem within my flat that is caused by roofing defects. Unfortunately, the roofing defects won’t be resolved any time soon as there is a 16 way split between all owners and nobody wants to get the work done. I am therefore looking at ways to deal with this internally whilst...

Cause of Worn Enamel Below Bath Drain Overflow

Hi, I'm new to the forums and have a question whereby the answer is probably obvious but I thought I'd check first...…. As per the attached photo, the enamel on my bath has worn below bath drain overflow. The bath is in a property that I rent out so I am unable to monitor what's happening but there ...
