Re: 15mm copper pipe and 10mm microbore CH

I am not a qualified plumber. My house in which I have lived for 26 years has your type of system. I have a system boiler in the utility room installed in 1977 still working , gravity HW and 22mm feed and return mains for the CE which is obviously pumped. These are are fist floor level and there are...

Re: Pumped Electric Shower - are they a big improvement?

I have a electric shower with integral pump but it is fed from the HW and CW tanks of course and only needs minimal electric current. These are very good if you have a system boiler, as I do ,but purely electric showers need good water pressure and the mains is sometimes not enough. Also massive cab...

Traditional sink tops anyone make them now

Does anyone know of a company making traditional sink tops. Not inset etc. I cannot see any but hate the thought of having an expensive worktop and cutting a massive hole in it . We like the old fashioned sinks with two bowls and two drainers. Had one in the last house but our inset is faded and won...

Re: Gas Stove Supply Line for new Gas Stove

I am quite surprised by some comments. Gas not controllable as electric for cooking? I turn down a boiling pan on gas it stops at once , as is instantly. An electric ring boils away for minutes and makes right mess. You need anticipation for electric cooking , I know, my mother had it and it was rub...

Re: Should a Radiator be Totally Level or not?

Looking at my 'Beginners guide to central heating ' published in the Do it yourself magazine by George Steele it says a radiator should have a slight rise toward the air vent. There you have it by someone who guided thousands to installing their own heating systems. How we lived in the 1960 s compar...

Re: Replace Existing Radiator With new Bigger Radiator

I presume you mean the type used in plumbing sinks etc.? Would look strange yes but if joint are good would be watertight I cannot see problems as the water is the same temperature in a hot tap normally. I would do it if it suited my requirements. No laws being broken , amazing eh?

Re: Gas Stove Supply Line for new Gas Stove

From your picture I cannot see a big plug. But normally a gas pipe would be sealed with a threaded plug with a square end , which would be proud, or a cap which would be neater but the threads on the outside of the pipe not the inside. A kitchen of an older house would normally have expected to have...

Re: Can hot Water Tanks be Installed in the Bathroom?

I lived in a house , I left 1982 though, , built by a reputable builder, and the airing cupboard was in the bathroom with the associated hot and cold water tanks. It had an immersion heater too complete with switch but was normally heated by the gas boiler situated directly beneath the tanks. My wif...
