Re: Blocking up Back Door and Need Late Completion Certificate

By your description, you have a wall thickness of 300mm plus plaster thickness, If this is a modern house then that would be the case, but I suspect it is not. Your cavity should be between 50 and 75mm wide, you can either full fill cavity with rockwool cavity batts or 25 to 50mm thick celotex cavit...

Re: Is This Plaster Causing my Damp Issues Either Side of Bricked up Doorway

I think carlite bonding has been used as a base coat and then thistle multi finish as the top coat. You never plaster down to the floor, as plaster can suck up moisture like a sponge. Its best to use a hammer and bolster and chip off the plaster to the brick work and leave a gap of about 25mm, the s...

Re: Help Needed With Builders Meeting and Issues With Work

I would contact your architect for advice, then raise any concerns you have with building control, he will have to inspect the work anyway

Re: Noisy Window Casing or Window Frame due to Wind

Its difficult to see in the picture, The second picture you posted was what is called a box sash window, the window slide vertically using cast iron counterweights.
You have a upvc casement window fitted, if you want to change it, look at vertical slide upvc windows, WindowsAndDoorsPrices.co.uk/Sash

Re: Removal of the Ground Floor Chimney Breast for Knock Through

Before you do anything call a structural engineer for advice, I would not attempt this myself without consultation.
Also building control will have to be informed and any steels passed by the inspector

Re: Victorian Fireplace Renovation and Help Needed With Opening

by the look of the picture, you can remove the brickwork and the fireback to give you the maximum opening size. If you want a log burner then you will need the maximum size possible, and can either plaster it or line it with brick. If its a cast iron fireplace then you will need to line it with bric...

Re: Replacing Rendering on Stone Walled Outbuildings

You can use a club hammer and bolster to remove the render, or hire a jack hammer,
As for the roof, if the timbers are ok and you don't want to remove the stone tiles, then sprayfoam is the only way that I can think of to make it watertight

yes a 10mm gap is required for expansion, a timber bead tacked to the skirting will keep the floor down
