12 metres square? or 12 square metres? 12 metres square would be 144 square metres - a huge wall! unskimmed 12.5mm plasterboard can take 32kg per square metre. skimmed/plastered finish will bear 20kg/sqm. if it's painted it will bear less still. if it is painted or skimmed and you are concerned then...

the problem is not that you've used a water based paint on an oil based paint - it's that you didn't sand down the skirting or clean it prior to painting. once oil and water based paints are dry they don't repel eachother if prepped correctly. remove all new paint, give the skirting a good sand, app...

how about using a strip or two of steel angle under the shelf as a stiffener? i did this for a shelf i made that bridges two units above my fridge for a 36 bottle wine rack. the shelf is 16mm laminated chipboard so clearly wouldn't take all that weight. worked a treat. conceal the steel with a cleat...

the rake is simply the angle of pitch of the staircase. the balustrade, or banister, is the name given to the handrail assembly in its entirety, comprising handrail, balusters, newel posts etc whether it be on the landing or running up the stairs. thus you could say it is both vertical and horizonta...

i was faced with a very similar situation last year, had 6 posts to remove from concrete foundations for a 6 course brick wall with panels on top. the posts had been placed before the footings were poured. i was able to remove a rotten stump with a long auger bit. i drilled out as much material as p...

not sure if silicone will work though - i tried to silicone an oiled oak worktop last year, it didn't take. i had to peel it all off (well it actually picked itself off!) silicone does not seem to like the oils. i used clear silicone, after 3 days it had turned milky white and lifted off. a pigmente...

correct, the latter are plunge cutters. no reason why you shouldn't be able to use both on a table, but plunge cutting on a table can be tricky and i guess potentially dangerous. you have to lay your piece over the spinning cutter resulting in kicking of the workpiece. also difficult to accurately p...

you can also cut wooden fillets and ram them in with some glue. leave slightly proud and sand smooth. textbook says mix your sawdust from the sanding with PVA to form a paste and use that as a filler. i find this rarely works well. firstly it stains your floorboards and the varnish does not take pro...

you can set your computer to run it's own defrag on a regular basis - mine does it as a background op once a week.

also, get an external hard drive and back everything up = you don't want to lose the lot if your computer ever packs up.

honestly mate the best thing that you can do with those hairline cracks is learn to live with them - any attempt at filling will probably only result in making them look worse. it's easier to fix a larger crack than a small one. unless you can be bothered to go to the length of re-rendering. and eve...
