My daughter has chinchillas and gerbils in her bedroom and they have several wooden houses that they sleep in/knaw etc. We have just noticed that all of these items have woodworm holes in them. The items were not near each other although all in the same room. We now now disposed of them all but are worried that the woodworm may have infected timbers of the house. Is it likely that they can get through well stuck down carpet to thefloorboards? The skirting looks fine. Can anyone help please?

It is my understanding that woodworm cannot survive in normal house temperatures (this from a builder freind when checking a very old property with millions of worm holes in origional timbers - these were diagnosed as old holes and inactive), if you have central heating then yoiu probably have nothing worry about but worth getting it checked all the same, hope this alleviates your worry while you get a specialist response
