vaillant are fantastic boilers. the build quality is second to none and parts availability is very good. i'm in the trade and recommend vaillant all day long. worcester are also good boilers. don't always go on price, vaillant aren't cheap but as the saying goes, 'you get what you pay for' and that ...

vaillant all the way. glowworm are part of the vaillant group so not bad, but i'd still go for the vaillant (there are some differences, vaillant use slightly better parts in certain areas). other than that i'd go worcester. baxi and potterton will be exactly the same boiler (the company is called b...

possibly leaking under the floor. the leaks you found were on your work? if so then it's very possible it's under the floor. it'd be very bad luck but these boilers have been known to have leaky heat exchangers which will leak internally and the water go out of the condensate pipe, therefore you'll ...

be careful getting an obscure make of boiler. the vast majority of engineers will have never heard of it or seen one. will make getting it serviced or repaired after the warranty expensive and time consuming. parts availability might be poor. in 7 years i've seen thousands of boilers but never a vie...

from your description i'd say it's in the rads themselves. try adding a cleanser. the only solution is flushing the system out or new rads.

air being drawn in can lead to corrosion problems as the plumber said but it could also be due to the system not being flushed properly when it was new or low quality radiators.

the trouble with these boilers is the standard ex[ansion vessel has a store of hot water in it. you can fit an external one but if the standard one is packing up it's more than likely that the system required an additional vessel in the first place. standard ones only have a capacity of about 6 litr...

maybe it's the boiler pcb faulty running it's anti pump seize mode. some boilers will run the pump every 24 hours if the boiler hasn't operated. if the pcb is faulty it might not recognise that the boiler has been on so operates the pump at the same time every night. i've had this problem on a potte...

unscrew the trv (thermostat) head and see if the spindle is stuck down, if it is you can either give it a hit with a big spanner or get a pair of grips and force it down a few times until it pops up. that's the fault 9 times out of 10.

whilst there isn't a time limit for how long x400 can be in the system there is a limit for how long you can leave it in if you want it to do anything, after about 4 weeks the dirt settles back down again as the x400 has reached the end of its useful life (it suspends magnetic dirt so it can be drai...
