Re: Loft conversion planning or permitted development advice needed

You don't say what the size of your conversion that you submitted to planning, so it's impossible to comment on this versus the permitted development option. It sounds a simple choice; you could go with the permitted development and then you'll get it without the stress and wait for approvals. Or yo...

Re: Large Crack over Bathroom Window in Apartment in Capetown

It might be structural, but hard to see from a photo. It does look like the is it just the plaster that has come away from the bottom of the lintel, which is not structural. You will need to remove this plaster to repair it, so you will also be able to see if the lintel is OK, which will give you pe...

Re: Power to a Shed Using Boiler Power in Adjacent Boiler House?

I don't understand what the question, but if the power only goes to the boiler house when the heating is on, then if you add a spur to this circuit then it will only work when the heating is on too?! There is more information here: m It is possible to run the cable on a restraining wire if preferred...

It looks like you have the wrong switch; the one you took off is a 2 terminal switch (1 gang) but you're connecting up a 3 terminal switch (2 gang). Find out more here: m It's hard to see but that's what it looks like. If this is what you are trying to do (ie, add a 2 gang switch), it might be a a g...

Re: What to do with Plaster on Bedroom Walls after Stripping old Paper

Hi potash1984, It all depends......! You might be able to get a way with using something like Fill & Skim to patch up the holes, if they are not too big. If they are then you might have to tear it all down and start a fresh. Have a look at our video on using Fill and Skim on patching a ceiling: ...

Re: Damage on unit due to heat from oven - Fitting heat deflector to fix?

We have not come across this issue before, and it sounds very frustrating. The first question is, how close is the oven to the draw unit? I would find out what the Zanusi recommend and ensure that you comply with this. Assuming that you do, they don't stipulate that you need a heat deflector is need...

Yes - so long is it is tied to the existing wall you can even use blocks if you need to/want to. It might be easier/quicker to cut the wall and then use furfix strips to join the walls?

Re: Help Needed Identifying Dry Ridge System

Hard to tell - it could be one of so many. It is dry vented and clipped. Why not wait for a period of good weather and take off a section which you can take down to your local merchants. It might also have the manufacturers details stamped on it so you might be luck enough to track it down that way....

Hi jamiejones20, I'm not sure what you are getting at, but if you mean that if the planning conditions restrict you from doing something that are required to do by the building regulations, then this construction should not of taken place. I guess this is why your architect wanted you to keep quiet....

Hi hillbagger, Is sounds like you have found a really good firm to do the work, so as experts their opinion should carry some weight.
