Re: External Boundary 9 Inch Wall Needing Straps Restraints

Sorry, meant to add that I'm doing another 2 of these, 1 a few feet from the ground level and another one at roughly head height.

Re: External Boundary 9 Inch Wall Needing Straps Restraints

Just so you all know, here's one of them installed. I used 2 inch bolts / rawplugs located as near to the centre of each brick as possible.

Re-Using Radiators When Adding a New Boiler

Hi all, I'm stuck with deciding if I should get rid of the old radiators in my house during a complete strip out and renovation, or try re-using them. They're in good condition, no rust, etc - I just wonder if modern ones would be more efficient. The ones I have are double skin. Thanks in advance, C...

Re: External Boundary 9 Inch Wall Needing Straps Restraints

thank you for that, I've bought some L shape brackets, which are around 3 foot by 4-6 inches. They have plenty of holes in so I'm hoping that some raw plugs / long screws will do the job. You can either buy some flat iron & bend it yourself or see if you have a local metal fabricator or blacksmi...

External Boundary 9 Inch Wall Needing Straps Restraints

Hi all, I hope you can help a little bit, I've got a 9 inch boundary wall about 3 metres high, which I want to make about 2 metres high. It returns around the back garden and is on 3 sides, enclosing the garden. The rear wall is hanging outwards quite a bit, so I thought about metal strapping it at ...

Re: Internal 9 Inch Damp Wall and What to do Apart from DPC Injection

Thank you Welsh brickie, really appreciate it. Is this the correct stuff? m That's really great advice, really appreciate it. I'm wondering if the wall is too far gone for repair, because when I was drilling for the DPC injection, the wall was just falling apart! I kind of stopped at about 3 holes, ...

Re: Internal 9 Inch Damp Wall and What to do Apart from DPC Injection

Bit of an update, but I the problem part of the wall is about 9 feet wide. and probably 15 odd courses high, if that helps.

So far I'm thinking it just needs supporting, then re-build in small sections.

Re: Planning help and advice needed for use of garage as office?

You could also take the precaution of a Lawful use certificate (using the description 'study', not office). Alternatively a Pre-Application enquiry for around £25. Agree with Welsh Brickie though, all the way.

Hope that helps.

Re: Is Planning Permission Needed to Construct Outbuilding in Garden?

Hi there, First things first, you need to know your area - so if you're in an AONB or Conservation area, it's likely you'll need planning permission. The rules don't refer to widths or lengths, only height and the proportion of your garden that you're proposing to cover with an outbuilding. If you e...

Internal 9 Inch Damp Wall and What to do Apart from DPC Injection

Hello all, This is my first post on here, looks like a really useful website. I was wondering if anyone could help as I have a problem wall, which is the party wall between me and an internal garage. I've taken some pictures, as you can see damp has damaged this wall really badly, I think this is pa...
