Re: Which type of wet sealer for these slabs ?

Hi monty246,
I suggest you use a water based clear sealer, this will bond into the slabs much better than a solvent based one. You may need to apply two coats and it will need redoing every year.

Re: Water Damaged Joists Repair

Hi oppa,
Provided the joists are not spanning more than 4 metres or thereabouts you will only need to get plates fitted either side of the joists to support the new floorboards.

Hi bert152,
Have you looked under the handle to see if there are grub screws clamping the spindle.

Re: ADVICE REQUIRED ON FLOOR

Hi geek84,
Small tiles will make the area appear bigger and if the area outside your front door is enclosed, they will be easier to lay. If you are tiling an external area go for pavers which will have an unglazed finish so will be safer in the wet than a glazed floor tile.

Re: 2 showers on same feed won't run simultaneously

Hi lukej, Yes you can fit the pump so all hot water is pump fed, the problem may be that one pump may not be able to maintain sufficient pressure if both showers are running at the same time. To explain, generally a 2 bar pump will give 2 bar if there is no flow, if the flow is 10 litres per minute ...

Re: Deformed shower strip due to silicone reaction?

Hi jduke,
The data sheet for the silicone does not recommend its use with polyethylene or polypropylene materials so it may be there has been a reaction to the acetic acid released during curing. You could try again and use a neutral curing silicone.

Hi fjb,
If you have a suspended floor, this is the most likely source of the smell.

Re: Cannot remove this toilet seat

Hi shumboom, I seem to recall that when fitting this type of seat the brackets with their fixing bolts (which fit in sliding channels on the bottom of the brackets) are fitted on the seat and cover and the complete assembly is then dropped into the holes on the pan and nuts fitted from underneath. S...

Re: Decking questions for new project please help

Hi nursesarah38,
If you go with using concrete blocks soak the ends of the posts which sit on the blocks in timber preservative. Tip preservative into a container and stand the posts in this for a while.

Re: Decking questions for new project please help

Hi nursesarah38, Firstly I would recommend you set your posts on solid concrete blocks set into the ground, if you bury them so the tops are 50mm below the ground surface you will be able to disguise them. Secondly if you run the joists at right angles to the fence the decking will be supported figh...

Re: Damp problems - unsure of which advice to take

Hi Janice, Since you have not posted images of the outside of the gable wall it is more difficult to advise you. However from your description the gable wall is probably solid 9” and I suggest you investigate whether the whole wall can be tile or slate hung. This would solve rainwater penetration pe...

Re: Driveway posts instillation near water cut off tap

Hi wanna72.
Given the location of the mains stopcock it is very likely that the post will be on top of the water pipe. Suggest you go for a single gate hung on a post on the right in your photo and stick with a post bolted to the building on the other side.

Hi wilkinson,
If it’s one builder bag of waste then no. If it’s a skip load of waste then yes but it all depends on what their quote/estimate says.

Re: Correct Process for primer on new plaster

Hi jcksqrd,
Accepting that you are going to use a primer this needs to be thin enough so the the paint and it’s bonding agents are carried into the surface of the plaster. Not all primers are of the same thickness so more water will be needed in a thick primer paint.

Hi mysteryman, It is difficult to give a simple answer to your question but here it is - buy one from an established company. If they are U.K. based they should make allowances for potential build up of limescale in the internal chambers. Undoubtedly a high level cistern will give a much more powerf...
