Re: Bubbled paint

Hi, it sounds as if when you painted the walls the first time you did not put on a mist coat but were lucky in that it didn't bubble, but when you tried it a second time your luck ran out and the first paint you put on started to come away. The first time you did them if you didn't mist coat them th...

Re: Hanging lining paper

Hi, as JRS says lining paper doesn't have to be plumb but I find it does usually make it easier to hang especially on a long run. As JRS says crosslining is a good idea and if you have any intentions on hanging a face paper over it then it should be done this way. I always ping a straight line to th...

Re: Hanging lining paper

Hi, do not leave a gap between the lining paper or it will just give you more work to do and it will never look right. Just follow the instructions and soak for the time it says and you should be fine. As for the corners just take the first sheet to just around the corner by a very small amount so t...

Re: Paint on wallpaper cracking

Hi, if it is just the fact that the paper hadn't dried properly then just wait for a couple of days after papering to make sure it is fully dry then give another coat or 2 and that should cover up the cracks. If however if it is paste on the paper then you will need to get rid of it before you put o...

Re: Paint on wallpaper cracking

Hi, it could be what you say but I am more inclined to think that maybe there was a bit of wallpaper paste on the paper when you painted. If this is the case try wiping it off where the crazy paving affect is. If it comes off then that is what it was, then you can give it another coat and all should...

Hi, I would go along with chris's answer on this one. I am one of the old school and prefer proper paint not the waterbased ones. I always think that by the time the paint has started to yellow then it is time to redo it anyway. Saying that waterbased gloss will stay whiter for a bit longer than the...

Hi Bobbi, there are a number of things it could be even down to the plaster itself, ie the plasterer could have trowelled the walls too much which makes them too smooth for the paint to stick to. This doesn't happen often though. The most likely thing is that the walls were not given a proper mist c...

Hi jellyfish, not something done often except for hanging lining paper but can be done easily enough. Start by measuring around an inch down from the ceiling at both ends of the wall you intend starting from and snap a chalk line between the 2 points. Make sure this is level using spirit level. It i...

Hi Dave, if you only want to do very small bits then I would say yes but it will be similar to put on as plaster and the finish will only be as good as you are at putting it on. So expect some sanding if you have not had much practice at this type of thing. If there is a lot to do like an whole wall...

Hi Quinlad, there is nothing stopping you from painting it with ordinary matt finish, but it won't have the properties of proper bathroom paint and it will be more prone to mould. With bathroom paint it is easy to wipe down as it has a bit of sheen to it while using matt will make this harder to do....

Hi toplondonchef, good advice been given and the only thing I would add is about the stabilising solution. You should not need to use this unless it had been done before and areas of it were peeling or flaking which this being new it won't be. And would agree with JRS and use good quality sheepskin ...

Hi, it should be fine to mist coat if it is a light pink colour as this will mean that it has dried out.

Hi, you could try removing the greasy patches by washing with sugar soap first, then repaint it. I personally use oil based undercoat and gloss mixed together 50/50 to seal things like this if I can't get rid of it by cleaning. With the undercoat it with it, it will give a duller finish rather than ...

Hi Freddy, I usually go to add or remove programs when one of these comes on my PC. I find this is the best way of getting rid of them. Go to control panel, add or remove them scroll down until you find the one you want then click on remove and it should go.

Hi Rob, you answered your own question, they are not usually any good. They always make them look good on TV but in practice they will not give the finish they show. Personally I would use a roller and a cutting in brush. With a little practice you should be able to get a decent finish, much better ...
