Hi, did you remove or at least sand the varnish before doing anything else to it. From what you have written it sounds as if you put the new stuff straight on to the varnished surface and if this is the case then you will get the problem you have said about. If you did rub it down there should be no...

Hi diymatt, try looking at the thread further down this list, the one for THIS PAINT STINKS. There seem to be a lot of people having the same problem and most of the time it's with Crown paint. Have a look at that and you may find something that helps you. You can get a sealer to go on over the stuf...

Hi colin, I think that I would use an external corner cut then use a piece to fit on the end of that so that it ends with a proper mitre finish. Cut an external corner using a scrap piece of coving and offer that up to the ceiling at the correct angle and mark the wall then get someone to hold that ...

I know you say it is raw plasterboard, but is it just boards or has it got a coat of plaster on it. Very strange for it not to be plastered unless it's been artexed as you would have difficulty in hiding the joins in the boards.

Hi Dadwood, if you are going to use sugar soap then you will need to wash it off afterwards otherwise the new paint will not adhere properly. I would always give it a light sanding too, just a light one as this will remove any small bits that may be in the last coat of paint. Then before giving it f...

Hi, International Paints do a tile paint for kitchen tiles. I would say though that any paint you put on them will mark very easily as tiles are not really made to be painted over. Not something I would do myself especially in the kitchen where they will need to be cleaned regularly. Make sure that ...

Hi payney, I think JRS was saying that there could be some damp in the chimney breast itself which is causing it. Sometimes water comes down the inside of it and stains the outside. Or if it is a bungalow there could be a problem on the outside of the property which is causing the damp ie flashing o...

Hi denboy, I would agree with JRS on this one and thin the first coat down a bit. If you put the first coat on straight on from the tin it will probably dry too quickly and so wont adhere properly to the walls, the same as internal ones. It will also make it a lot easier to paint them.

Hi, did you wash all the paste off before starting to paint, if not this could be the cause. Another thing it could be is that the builders put the first coat on the walls too thickly without putting on a mist coat first. It sounds like it could be the second one to me. If a mist coat is not put on ...

Hi James, you won't notice much difference in the types of brush ie, emulsion, stain, gloss etc. I personally only use Hamilton brushes except if it is a once only job where you are going to dump it afterwards as some paints cost more for stuff to clean them than they are actually worth or if it's f...

Hi conks, if it's really thick then the chances are that it is paint. If you do intend burning off the old stuff then you will need to be very careful as over the years I have seen a few houses catch fire because of people doing this, even professionals. It can be done but you need to take a lot of ...

Hi JonnyBoy, if the white is sound just leave it there. Chances are that it needed 2 mist coats to take the suction out and maybe only had the one so the topcoat didn't take properly. Once you have taken off what you can give it another mist coat first before you topcoat it.
