Re: Bathroom Ceiling Sealed with PVA but Paint Keeps Peeling off?

Hi, the first thing I would like to ask is why you put PVA on a new ceiling as this can often lead to bubbling and cracking. If I were you I would remove it all and wash the ceiling off to get all the PVA off it. Then give it 1 or 2 coats of watered down emulsion to seal it, this is called a mist co...

Re: Heater for Airing Cupboard After Boiler Change - Any Ideas?

Thanks for that I have now ordered the tubular type so I will give them a try first. They have cut out on them so should not overheat. Will let you know how they work in case someone else wants this type of thing as many will now see their airing cupboards disappear as more people lose the hot water...

Re: Heater for Airing Cupboard After Boiler Change - Any Ideas?

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have decided to go for one of the tubular ones and give it a try. Really just want to give it a bit of warmth as the new boiler gives off nothing at all.

Heater for Airing Cupboard After Boiler Change - Any Ideas?

Hi all, I am looking for small heater for my airing cupboard. We recently changed to combi boiler and have now lost the hot water tank. We didn't want small rad in there as it would only come on with heating so no use in summer. Seen some on line but wanted to know if anyone had ideas as some don't ...

Re: Patchy Wall After Cleaning With Sugar Soap and Then Painting?

There is a good chance that the paint bubbled because it was put on too thickly and it didn't adhere properly to the walls. I would rub it all down and any bare patches give a coat or two of watered down emulsion first, then give all the walls a mist or watered down coat of the finish paint then fol...

Re: New Plaster - Followed Painting Advice but Need Help With Final Top Coat

Trade matt is not washable like a vinyl emulsion so will often wash off. A second mist coat may help to seal the new plaster then a couple of coats of a good vinyl emulsion should do it. If there is any grease or dirt on the ceiling or walls make sure it is all off before doing this. PVA shouldn't u...

Re: Painting Areas of High Condensation in a Bathroom - What is the Best Paint?

Before putting on this type of paint you should have sealed the new plastered areas first with a mist coat of emulsion which is a watered down coat or 2 first The best thing to use for this is a normal matt finish emulsion and not a vinyl or specialist one as you seemed to have used as the walls nee...

Re: Mould Resistant Paint For Use In Bathroom

Get rid of all the mould first otherwise it will continue to grow under the new paint. I find that Dettol Mould and Mildew remover works well though you may have to give it more than one coat depending on how bad it is. Dulux bathroom paint comes in many colours not just white and is mould resistant...

Re: No! No! No! Silk emulsion straight onto new plaster! Help!

You will find that the reason it peeled is because you didn't put on a mist coat or two first. That is a coat of watered down emulsion as this would have sealed the new plaster and will give following coats something to adhere to instead of just sitting on top of the new plaster. I would give it two...

Re: Peeling ceiling help in bathroom after mould treatment

Hi, how far have you taken it back as you say you have washed it with sugar soap. Is it back to bare plaster or just to the sealing paint you put on. It could be that you are putting the emulsion on too thickly and that the ceiling needs a mist coat, ie watered down coat first so that it adheres to ...

Re: Wall Decals

Hi, on removing the woodchip paper I usually score a wall then give it a couple of coats of warm soapy water and allow to soak in then I find it comes off quite easily. Before starting place some old newspaper along the bottom of the wall then when you come to clean up afterwards it is just a case o...

Re: Wall Decals

Hi, and welcome to the site. Chances are that they will not stick properly because the paper is textured so they may fall off after a short time so that answers the second question as well. Being cleanable depends on the type you buy some are some not. If you have a spare piece of the paper you coul...

Re: how do I remove wallpaper paste off plasterboard?

Just go ahead and wash it with sugar soap. If it's been skimmed then it should be fine and will just dry out afterwards. Just make sure that you get it all off otherwise the new paint will not stick to the walls properly. Before painting make sure that the walls are really smooth before putting on V...

Re: Acrylic primer

Hi, why not go to B&Q or similar and buy some black paint. Won't be any more expensive than getting a primer undercoat and a pot of dye to put in to it and will give you a better black. You can buy many different finishes in black so I am sure they will have one to suit your needs. If they don't...
