Repairing loose glass cassette in composite door

Hello, I have a composite front door and the trim around one of the glass cassettes has come unstuck and the glass cassette is loose. I was wondering if it was the purpose of the trim to keep the cassette secure? If so, can I just stick the trim back on and the cassette will be fine, or is there som...

Grohtherm SmartControl Thermostatic bath/shower mixer installation advice

Hello. I purchased one of these ( https://www.grohe.co.uk/en_gb/thermostatic-bath-shower-mixer-1-2-34718000.html ) for my new bathroom and asked my plumber to fit the pipework so that I could fit the shower once I had tiled. For this he left two pipes bent out from the wall with 150mm spacing. I the...

Re: Towable digger/backhoe hire

Hello. Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the side passage access to the back garden is less that 60cm wide at its narrowest. Access through the house is unlikely because there is a dog-leg into the kitchen. We only just managed to get our fridge through the gap by taking the doors off (that had a...

Towable digger/backhoe hire

Hello. I need to dig a trench in my back garden, but there is no access for even the smallest mini/micro digger. However, I have seen online towable backhoes, which look like they might be a possibility, but I can't see anywhere that has them for hire. Has anyone had an experience with these things?...

Using SIPs in a confined space

Hello I'm thinking of replacing my garden shed with a garden office, and am considering using SIPs. However, the space where is will go is very confined, with border fences on three sides. This means that the office would have to be constructed from the inside, so I was wondering if this is possible...

Putting Down new Floorboards for LVT

Hello. I am intending to put LVT in my bathroom. The existing floorboards are very uneven, so I am intending to remove all the floorboards and put down a new floor, probably a single sheet of chipboard. If I do this, will I still need to put plyboard on top of the new floor before laying the LVT? If...

Correct Pipe for Toilet Waste That runs Under Floor

Hello I am installing a new toilet which will involve running the waste pipe under the floor of the adjoining room. The distance between the wall that the toilet will be attached to and the outside of the wall where it will join the existing vent pipe is approximately 2.8m. Would a 3m pipe be long e...

Removing Load-Bearing Wall to Enlarge Kitchen Area

Hello. Now, before I start, I know that eventually I will have to speak to a structural engineer to get it done, but I thought, before I spend a few hundred quid finding out that what I was thinking wasn't possible, I'd ask here first. My 1930's house was originally L-shaped: first.png At some point...

Replace Extractor with Dehumidifier for Clearing Moisture from Bathroom

Hello. A year or so ago, I fitted a heat-exchange extractor fan in loft, ducted to my bathroom, with the intake over the shower and the output in the opposite corner. It runs constantly at its highest speed, but it doesn't seem to be up to the job, as after a shower the bathroom takes ages to clear ...

100mm Holesaw - Need to Locate Arbour to Fit Drill or Holesaw

Hello I need to drill a 100mm diameter hole in my ceilng. I have a set of holesaws, but they are too small, so I bought at 102mm holesaw. Unfortunately it didn't fit the arbour that came with my set, as the holesaw has a circular hole but the arbour has a partially round shaft with two straight edge...

Re: 21.5mm Trap for Heat Exchanger Fan Unit

Hello.

Thanks for the reply.

That is certainly an idea, although I can't see anywhere that supplies 21.5mm compression fittings. The closest seems to be push fit, which I suppose would be good enough for this.

Thanks,

Carl

21.5mm Trap for Heat Exchanger Fan Unit

Hello. I have just bought a heat exchange extractor fan that has an outlet for condensation which requires 21.5mm upvc pipe. According to the installation instructions, I need to fit a trap to this outlet, but the only thing I can find is a straight-through trap (e.g. http://www.plasticdrainage.co.u...

Costs of Excavating a Basement Under Front Garden

Hi. I'm trying to find out approximate costs of digging up my front garden for a basement. I've already spoken to my local council and they said that as long as the basement was no bigger than the current house footprint, I should be allowed to do it. Another article on this website mentioned a cost...
