Hi I'm not sure just fixing to the plasterbaord along is sufficient. Ideally t would be better to put a noggin in the wall, but this would mean cutting a large hole in the plasterboard and making good afterwards. If you don't want to do that, then at least try to locate one of the screws in a stud. ...

Hi

What about running cable from another room? I've got a few sockets that are back to back with others on the other side of the wall. Is that an option for you?

Wire/tape colours for a light switch

Hi

When wiring up a light switch can you still use a piece of red tape, or should youget twin brown core and earth or should the tape now be brown?

Bubles in plaster

Hi

My first go at plastering with real plaster, ie, not premixed stuff from the sheds.

It seems to have a lot of bubles, did I mix too vigourously? Did it by hand with a stick.

Hi dbdiy

I was once told by a builder you need to let the walls dry out. If the bricks have absorbed water seeping behind blown render, new render won't stick very well to them.

Hope this helps.

Hi Gasypete You should get them moved, for a variety of reasons. E.g., on the skirting they are more likely to be damaged. Also higher up is better for access. Some modern appliances cannot be plugged in when the sockets are on the skirting, or the flex is bent back a lot. I'm moving all of mine, as...

If the ring main will be on the CU RCD, do I need another one, or will an FCU be sufficient?

Hi

You should also bear in mind that fitting low voltage downlights is notifiable work.

Which is why I am fitting mains voltage ones.

Under Tub - outside all zones

Hi I've had conflicting advice on what can be put in under the bathtube. The sides cannot be removed without using a tool, so my understanding is this is outside all zones. i'm lookin to get a shower pump fitted. Can a socket be put under a bath for the pump, or should it be connected to an FCU outs...
