Wallpapers can be a nightmare , I remember a job where we hanging a paper and having problems so I phoned the manufacturers who insisted their quality control department had checked this batch and they didn't have any problems , this went on for several days so in the end I took a roll and drove dow...

Most likely the paint on there at the moment is a contract emulsion , you should be using a good wooven roller if the paint is a trade product you could thin slightly 10% a 12" roller for the ceilings would make things quicker .

try scatching the emulsion to see if it comes off easily ? I expect trying to remove the emulsion would be a bit of a job , I would be tempted to risk painting over it with the satinwood , see if you are offered some allternative advise.

I don't think water based paints flow out as well as oil , it helps if you use a quality brush such as a perdy , on skirtings and trim this may not be so noticible but for doors you could well see a lot more brush lines . I personally do not think it is as hard wearing as an oill finish , I guess ev...

Hi

I think you have answered your own questions there . as you say cutting along a joist watch out for nails and pipes set the saw to 22mm depth and look for pipe runs. As for cuttng near a wall try cutting back a bit further and fix a noggin in through the floor.

Hi this is probably correct but in reallity you should be able to paint over the walls with a permable contract paint once the plaster has turned pink. The walls have been injected with silicone and the render would have had a waterproffer added so all of the moisture needs to pass out through the p...

I think the plasterer gave you the advise he thought was correct. I think if you asked a decorator he would have given you different advise. I personally do not like Silk applied to new plaster , I would apply a diluted coat (10 - 20 % depending on brand ) of contract emulsion then silk on top. If y...

hello

I think the oil in the paint will cause all paints to yellow and the lack of light acellerates this process. The allternative is waterbased gloss but it does have it drawbacks.

Hello Andy Not sure if I understand your problem but if it is the cutting in you are able to see , then this would be normal as it is a different texture to a roller ,try cutting in first then rollering as close as you can to ceilings walls sockets etc. some paints such as silk show this up more tha...

Hi there I not sure you can , chemical strippers will be an easy option but will be absorbed into the plaster . I assume this is a large ornate moulding that has lost some of its detail by heavy emulsions ? try a steam stripper and carfully scrapping away with a piece of softwood . Maybe some else c...

hello Gulpy It may be a reaction to the stain I havn't heard of this wood but that would be unlikely, it may be the nails used to secure the beads , copper , steel or zinc have differing effects on deiffent woods , I would guess though if the staining is mainly on the horizontal beads it is from wat...

Hi stew

You will need to remove the vynil tiles first , use a chisel to get under them or an sds drill with a wide chisel if they are stubborn try a hot air gun . As for the adhesive try F.W. Ball there web site should give you several options depending on the size and the enviroment.
