replacing consumer unit

Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much it would cost to replace a consumer unit fuse box, minimum 10 way. Box in same position. Had a quote of £350. does that sound OK? Thanks

I personally would cut the laminate and fix the stud wall directly to the floor as if you decide to lift the laminate at a later date, it may cause problems if its under the wall. Also laminate should not be restricted in any way so it can still move.

Black goo

Stripped cable and on inside of grey cable is clean. bit concerned cable is melting but could this have been there from fitting or is melting a possibility. ...

personally i would fit units first then floor .just because if you have to lift the floor for any reason .it would be a lot easier to lift . you can still put the floor under the plinth giving you a good finish and your units may have matching end panels which could be fitted after to hide the gap a...

mostly it is fitted around toilet then sealed .if you fitted it under toilet it would be a neater finish but may affect the pipe work slightly depends on the toilet . and if you had a flood the toilet would have to come out again if it were under .

agree with Doctor but one other solution may be possible .if the cabinet is joined on to an other cabinet on the hinge side you could use a longer wood screw which would go through the two cabinets but make sure its not to long by holding the screw against the two gables so you know it will not burs...

one thing that could also help you to do the job is a taping knife to fill the joint .It has a wide blade that spans the joint which directs the filler where you want it to go . you can get them from a good diy store

Another problem may be screw bound which means screw heads are too big which may bind hinges. Make sure correct size of screw is used for hinge. It must not protrude.
