STRENGTHENING A JOIST

I need to drill a vertical hole through a floor joist to accommodate a central heating pipe to supply a new c.h. radiator. The problem is that this hole would be next to a redundant hole. I would like to add strength to this weakened region of joist - any suggestions ? The joist is at the perimeter ...

Re: FLOOR JOIST

I have to drill a new vertical hole through a floor joist to accommodate a 15mm central heating pipe. The new hole is very close to an existing one and therefore would significantly reduce the joists strength in this region. Is there a metal strap commercially available to strengthen this region or...

Would this eliminate the need to drain the whole system if at a later date there was a problem with a single radiator?...

ROOM THERMOSTATS

I have an "Ideal E type RS2" gas central heating boiler which runs well but is quite old. The individual radiators all have TRVs but the system has no room thermostat. Does this mean that the boiler will continue to run and burn gas even when all the rooms have reached the desired temperat...
