Cleaning lead flashing

Anyone know a 'cheats' way to clean used lead flashing? Anything I can use instead of buying a proprietary cleaner? Thank-you.

Quantity of stone needed for driveway

Can anyone tell me how many tonnes of stone I should order for my driveway please. It has a compacted scalpings surface and we are putting 20mm balsalt stone as a top surface. Whole area is 190sq m. and we have been told that 50mm is about right for depth? To all you experts out there - thank-you.

Why not use PVA to size newly plastered walls?

Hi, just read a post which said not to use PVA to size a newly plastered wall prior to papering. We've always used watered down PVA, why is this not a good idea? Thanks.

Damp patch on window reveal

Donwstairs window has developed a damp patch from window frame moving in in a semi crcle shape. It gets a lot worse when it rains as you would expect, especially if it is also windy. We've re-sealed the outside window frame where it meets the wall and checked the window above and resealed that. It w...

solid wood floor self adhesive underlay

Anyone know anything about an adhesive underlay for use with solid wood planks? It is supposed to allow solid wood to be laid without nailing and so avoids the use of a ply subfloor over a concrete base. We are lifting old wood blocks and replacing with an oak floor. We would like to use solid wood ...

Re: Rain water leak around a uPVC window

[quote="doug"]Hi, I've got a uPVC window that is leaking around the frame when it rains. One bottom corner gets damp whenever it rains. We've just had the room interior gutted and replastered, so I've just noticed this. I checked the exterior silicon seal right up the side, the top & b...

What wood to burn in a wood burning stove?

Hi, anyone an expert on wood for burning? We've installed a wood burining stove and have a lime tree in our garden which is being cut down. We've been advised that lime does not burn well at all and is useless for a wood buring stove - any thoughts on this please?

Orange peel effect / bubbling of sealer

Anyone know why a water based sealer (Granwax Aquathane) would form bubbles which dry in place in the sealer layer? It was applied by a professional floor layer but has happened twice and he can't explain it!

Over sanded wood block flooring

We have lifted wood block flooring from hall and had it 'professionally' laid in the lounge. Problem is thatt when it was lacquered the surface bubbled. It was resanded and it bubbled again and was re-sanded. However it has now been over sanded and some areas gave had to be replaced. Other areas loo...
