Hi You can indeed use moisture resistant plywood but we would also suggest that you treat everything with the following product: m - You will need to keep windows and doors open as this is some pokey stuff!! As you rightly point out, this needs to be done safely so cutting anything is really a “no-go”. As we have not encountered this issue before we cannot advise safely.

In light of this it might be worth a call to GasSafe for further advice: http://www.gassaferegister.co.uk .

This looks very much like old cast iron pipework and is quite old. Due to this your best bet would be reclamation yards or possibly even scrap yards.
