Re: Double skinned door repainting.

Hi funkydad, If the door was painted by the Barret tradesmen then you should be able to repaint it with one of the metal paints but do use a fine wire wool on the door so as to give a key. Since it is a metal door it’s more likely to be a factory applied finish and in this case you may have to use c...

Re: Repair advice needed for mould build up on timber beading window frame

Hi casualdiy, Yes it would be best to leave any repairs until the summer, sand the surface then apply wet rot wood hardener. Once this has set you can then repaint. Once the paint has dried/cured I would suggest you apply a small bead of silicone mastic to the wood-glass join so that if you get cond...

Re: Ceramic tiling on a woodblock floor

Hi vaultsman,
It would be best to use a decoupling membrane but it is essential to check whether there is an effective DPM below the wood block floor. If there are any defects damp will build up below the membrane and the wood blocks will swell.

Re: Concrete shed base - ok to leave tree stump?

Hi jnix,
You would do better digging it out but you could encase it in concrete but expect cracks in the stump area.

Hi ingridguerci94,
The most likely culprit is the fill valve, to confirm try depressing the ball valve arm slightly.

Re: Roofing Repairs for Leaking Roof - Which Quote?

Hi girlie26, If the chimney is not used and you have no plans to reinstate it, it’s best to remove it. I would be very wary of a contractor who is prepared to carry out chimney works from a ladder. For these reasons I would suggest contractor A but whichever one you choose check they have public lia...

Re: Am I able to cover up a cracked internal window sill?

Hi jonlondone17,
You could buy a length of upvc capping board and fit this on top of the existing cill. You will have to do some careful cutting and the front edge will have a corner rather than a rounded edge. Use silicone mastic to hide the join and to stick the cover board down.

Hi mattdownsouth,
Sorry I should have called them zip cable ties - if you can find them use ones that are about 7mm wide.

Hi mattdownsouth,
Fix tight to the wall using large zip clips - screw the clip onto the wall and zip!

Re: Stuck 55mm nut in Mira shower

Hi stronach, From experience your chances of getting the cartridge undone are slim - it’s probably naturally welded with limescale in the housing. If you have a centre punch you could try driving it round using the punch at an oblique angle - use the punch on flats on the opposite sides. The danger ...

Re: Help! How to install fence toppers

Hi helengolds, The first question is “ is the fence yours” - if the posts are on your side of the fence it may be owned by you but if they are behind the fence panels it may be owned by your neighbour. Second question “are the posts at 6 foot centres” if yes you could face fix some lengths of 100x25...

Re: How do I fill gaps between Plasterboard and Ceiling?

Hi wull691c,
It looks like scrim has not been used when the plastering was done, probably the easiest solution would be to fit coving.

Hi swharton,
Sand and then try a water based primer/undercoat on a small area, then apply a water based top coat and see if it all adheres.

Hi sydh,
Probably best to stick with oiling in the spring, if you try a different coating it may not adhere.
