changing light fittings

I've had a kitchen extension built and had the electrics done by an electrician who put up pendants as temporary lights. Am I ok to change these pendants for the light fittings I want, myself, or is this against the regs! and would it invalidate the certificate the electrician issued me

I've got a toilet to fit, next week, which I can see I'm going to have problems fitting, therefore I could do with some advice please. Its one of those "designer" ones which fit flat to the wall. The soil pipe is located in the concrete floor. Once the pan is in situ' I can't get at the fl...

16th or 17th

I've been doing some major work on my house for the last year or so, including an extension. The extension being covered by building control. Included in the work are new electrics. The electrics are at the first fix stage at the moment. There will be a new consumer unit going in, and the second fix...

I've seen some work done by corgi engineers and its awful, I've also seen work done by good diy'ers and its great because they have taken their time and not rushed it, read the manufacturers instructions and followed them word for word.

Its a good idea to paint an external copper pipe.It will give it some protection from the elements, but I'd paint it with a gloss paint to match the drainage pipes etc. The gas pipe going into the building through the wall needs to be protected with a sleeve where it goes through and sealed on the i...

To kbrownie about self levelling

Hi, thanks for reply. the self levelling is to level the concrete floor from a new extension to the original floor of the house. The new concrete floor isn't that far out but it is quite rough in places. A problem I might encounter is that the original floor was covered in tiles which were stuck dow...

self leveling compound

Cheaper power tools

Hi, I,ve just spotted a biscuit jointer in Aldi, at a price of £19.99, made by Power Craft. When I buy tools I always tend to buy the best I can so I'm sceptical about the quality and the quality of the job it will produce. The unbeliveable thing about it is when you buy a 'quality make' you will get...

Hi,another way, which I've used, is to mix Bi-carb and Bleach into a paste. Apply the paste, onto the grout, with an old toothbrush. Leave paste on for at least an hour, then wash off. It worked a treat for me.
